Can I have massage if I am sick?

It is best for you to call and reschedule your appointment if you are ill.
  • Many people believe massage therapy will make them feel better if they are sick, however, while massage can increase immune system function, it may be too demanding on the system while the body is actively fighting a virus. Having a massage may actually make the person feel worse and possibly increase the recovery time from the illness. It is best to stay home and rest.
  • Visiting a massage therapy office while ill with something contagious may result in the the massage therapist and her other clients also becoming sick.
  • Non-contagious illnesses may benefit from massage therapy. It is best to discuss with your doctor both your condition and your interest in receiving massage.
